The next highest rate was in Wyoming, where cases rose by 27% or an increase of 125 cases from the previous week. Testing numbers are typically down earlier in the week but the latest daily testing numbers are the lowest since last July.

As of 10:30am Tuesday, Public Health Ontario reported another 2,485** cases of COVID-19 over two days (1,446 Monday, 1,039 Tues), bringing the total to 524,950. The number of tests performed is 15,041,724 (16,857 more than Monday) and results are pending for 7,450.

Almost 20,200 tests were completed on Sunday and about 16,900 tests were completed Monday.

Health officials reported 1,446 new COVID-19 cases on Monday and 1,039 cases on Tuesday.

"There's a number of metrics that play in there to say that we are down and we're gonna stay down, and progressively drop down through the whole summer rather than going on a roller coaster", he told reporters. Ontario logged 1,691 new cases on Sunday, 1,794 on Saturday and 1,890 on Friday.

There were 86,927 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the last 24-hour period and 99,108 a day ago.

Almost 4,100 more people recovered from the virus over the past two days, resulting in 19,026 active cases across the province. Ontario's COVID-19 death toll now stands at 8,655.

The province says 692 people are in intensive care because of COVID-19 and 498 are on a ventilator.

Over 50% of Niagara residents have now received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, just over 3% have received both doses.

The Reuters analysis comes as many Americans begin to return to some semblance of normalcy with local governments and businesses beginning to lift mask and social distancing requirements, after the Centers for Disease Control said fully vaccinated Americans can go maskless in most settings. Two doses of approved vaccines in Ontario are needed for full immunization.

There were 624 cases in Peel Region and 174 in York Region.
