Two dead, 20 wounded in shooting spree in Florida

Two people were killed and up to 25 people were injured in a shooting in South Florida.

More than 20 victims with injuries were taken to hospitals, police said in a news release. The non-profit organization Gun Violence Archive reported that there were 200 mass shootings in the U.S. in the first 132 days of the year.

Angelica Green, of Miramar, told reporters her son and nephew, both 24, were arriving at the event when they became among those shot and wounded. "He said the guys came with ski masks and hoodies, and just started shooting up the crowd".

In a tweet, the department's director, Alfredo "Freddy" Ramirez III, condemned the "targeted and cowardly act of gun violence".

When a Nissan Pathfinder SUV approached the scene, police added, "three subjects exited the vehicle and began shooting indiscriminately into the crowd". CBS Miami noted 99 evidence markers on the ground..."many times those marker indicate shell casings".

And transported at least twenty wounded to hospital, including at least one in critical condition.

Police were seeking help from the community in finding the shooters.

In March past year, the number of weekly federal background checks on gun buyers surpassed one million for the first time, the New York Times reported.

The shooting comes amid several gun massacres in the country in recent months, including the Wednesday attack by a public transit worker who fatally shot nine people at a light-rail facility in San Jose before killing himself.

President Joe Biden last month branded USA gun violence an "epidemic" and an "international embarrassment".

The number of people who were killed with guns, including suicides, surpassed 43,000 in 2020, the research group said.
