Ontario's stay-at-home order has been lifted, but the Ford government said all COVID-19 restrictions will remain in place until the province enters Stage 1.

CTVNewsToronto.ca will stream Ford's announcement live at 1 p.m.

The province is aiming to start reopening the economy later this month with looser rules on businesses and outdoor activities.

When Ford closed schools in April, he said he wanted "nothing more than to be able to open the schools up again as soon as possible".

Ford asked seven questions to doctors, scientists, and educators, including whether the B.1.617 COVID-19 variant first discovered in India poses an increased risk to students and education workers.

Chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams has expressed support for a return to in-person learning, as well as Dr. Janet DeMille, the medical officer of health with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

"In recent weeks, there has been a wide range of advice and commentary around the reopening of schools in Ontario", wrote the Premier.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath argued that the reason why schools have remained closed has everything to do with the cuts made to education in this year's budget.

The move comes despite calls from medical professionals across the province to allow kids to return to school.

Ontario parents, teachers and students are still anxiously awaiting the formal announcement from Premier Doug Ford about whether or not schools will be reopening along with the rest of the province in the coming weeks, but it seems that the province has already made its decision on the subject.

"What we're considering is the health and safety of children and young people in Ontario, their teachers, and other school officials so we need to take the time to get this right", said Elliott.
