United Kingdom records 10,633 new Covid-19 cases

Britain on Sunday recorded 9,284 new cases of coronavirus and six deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test. The deaths were in a man in his 30s and another in his 60s from Winnipeg linked to an unspecified variant of concern as well as a Winnipeg woman in her 50s linked to the B.1.1.7 or alpha variant.

Missouri counties account for 13 of the top 25 counties in the USA with the highest rate of new cases, The Times reported.

Data from the state health department's COVID-19 dashboard showed that the number of people hospitalized with the virus in southwestern Missouri had risen 72% from 154 at the beginning of the month to 265 on Friday.

It compares with 10,321 cases and 14 deaths yesterday, and 7,490 cases and eight deaths this time last week.

The test positivity in Manitoba has dropped to 8 per cent - the lowest it's been since April 24 - and 7.2 per cent in Winnipeg.

While 53.3% of the population of Americans have initiated vaccination, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most southern and northern Missouri counties are well short of 40%.

As daily case numbers trend downward, the number of vaccinated people in Manitoba is climbing.

Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba's chief public health officer, said Monday the province has had restrictions in place on workplaces due to COVID-19 and public health has long had the ability to take action against workplaces if transmission becomes an issue.

"We still expect hospitalization and ICU numbers to remain high over the coming weeks", said Roussin.

There are 141 Manitobans in hospital in the province with active COVID-19, including 37 in intensive care. Of those, 58 are in Manitoba ICUs, while 14 are in Ontario and one is in Alberta. On Tuesday, there were 226 new patients admitted.

A total of 1,397 laboratory tests were completed Saturday, bringing the total number of lab tests completed since early February 2020 to 814,968.

Roussin also addressed where COVID-19 is now transmitting in Manitoba, noting workplaces in the province are the cause for many cases.
