Insomniac has also worked on several VR games with Oculus, including the upcoming Stormland.

Microsoft's recent slew of studio acquisitions is not going unanswered at its primary competitor Sony as the Japanese company is set to purchase Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games. The developer has created multiple platform exclusives for Sony and helped define the brand for a long while with games like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank, and the Resistance series.

With that in mind, Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 seems all but guaranteed now. Financial terms of this transaction including the acquisition cost are not disclosed due to contractual commitments. The entire Insomniac Games management team is said to be staying the same as well. Our partnership amplifies our potential, and Marvel's Spider-Man was a testament to this. "We've enjoyed a special relationship with bePlayStation practically since our inception". We're excited to take the next step in our growth alongside our longtime WWS partners.

"We have enjoyed a strong collaborative partnership with the studio for many years, and are thrilled to officially welcome them to the Worldwide Studios family", added Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden.

In 2013, Insomniac started making games for platforms other than PlayStation, releasing games like "Fuse" (for Xbox 360 and PS3) and "Sunset Overdrive" (for Xbox One). "As we look ahead to our future, we know that joining the WWS family gives us the best opportunities to fully achieve that vision on a much larger scale".
