Michael Wang tells The San Francisco Chronicle the reunion was supposed to have a dozen people and but that scores showed up for the party in Orinda, a wealthy city east of Berkeley.

Four people were shot dead at a crowded Halloween costume party at a house in Orinda in Northern California, the county sheriff's office said on Friday. One user wrote, "Muthaf*ckahs took their "thoughts and Prayers" back after they found out that party in Orinda where 4 people died was thrown by Black people. the response went from "gun control now" to "who rented a AIRBNB to these idiots?" The official Twitter of the Contra Costa County Office tweeted, "Orinda Police Department and Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff are working a multiple shooting in Orinda".

Residents of the neighborhood were frustrated with noise from the party before the shooting, said neighbor Chris Gade, who estimated that the party drew about 100 people.

Airbnb spokesman Ben Breit said in an email that the home's Airbnb ad included prohibitions on parties, weapons, smoking and marijuana use.

Police did not immediately provide information about the victims or what prompted the violence home a half-mile (0.8 kilometers) from downtown Orinda.

A neighbor told the station that the home appeared to be rented out for a private party.

Then, Gade said he heard gunshots and saw people "screaming and fleeing down the hill". The maximum occupancy is two people per bedroom plus three people not assigned to bedrooms.
