Speaking from beneath the 160-foot-tall prototype, Musk said SpaceX would continue that test program by launching the vehicle on a much higher "hop test" - up to 65,000 feet - before landing it upright back on the ground.

On Twitter, Musk said SpaceX will take the opportunity to move on to its next iteration, "Mk3", which he says will have a more advanced flight design.

In its latest statement, SpaceX said its plans have since changed. This had some price as a manufacturing pathfinder, but flight bear is somewhat utterly different.

SpaceX's Starship prototype Mk1 suffered a catastrophic failure on its Boca Chica launchpad in South Texas Wednesday afternoon.

The winged spacecraft stage, which was being tested without its conical nose section, remained upright on the test stand as vapor from a ruptured vessel towered out and down the vehicle's surfaces before it blew away.

SpaceX has already circulated a comment saying that the goal of the test was to maximize the pressure in the systems, so the result was not completely unexpected.

At the September 28 occasion, Musk said the group at Boca Chica would begin work in about a month on a subsequent model, called Mark 3, which they evaluated to be finished in around a quarter of a year. The decision had not been made not to fly this test article and the team focuses on the Mk3 compilations, which are designed for orbit. The spacecraft and its booster represent "a fully reusable transportation system created to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars and beyond", according to the company.

However, in a statement, the Elon musk founded company stated that a decision was taken before the test on November 20 to use the Mark 1 prototype and instead they will work on a more complete version that will be created to reach the orbit.

However, it was not the Mk1 that was meant to be the vehicle used for the Starship maiden orbital flight. It will combine with the Super Heavy booster rocket for use in long duration cargo and passenger missions.
