Captain Marvel 2 in development for potential 2022 release date

Captain Marvel 2 is going higher, further, faster, baby - but with a brand new writer and director.

After her dramatic intervention during the epic battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, we always knew that Carol Danvers would return.

Captain Marvel 2 is officially in development at Marvel Studios, and Megan McDonnell from Disney+'s WandaVision is in final negotiations to write the script for the much-anticipated sequel.

They also say that Marvel is eyeing a 2022 release.

Unlike the original, The Hollywood Reporter have stated that the action in Captain Marvel 2 will move away from the '90s. Early reports suggest that finding a female director is a priority. Almost a dozen features and series are in the works for Disney+, including "Loki" (2021), "Hawkeye" (2021) and "Ms. Marvel", which doesn't yet have a release date. 2019's Captain Marvel saw Danvers (Larson) become one of the world's most powerful heroes after she survived an alien engine explosion.

Breaking the misconception that female superheroes can't hold strong on their own at the box office, the film joined its superhero counterparts ("Avengers: Infinity War", "Black Panther", "The Avengers", "Captain America: Civil War", "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Iron Man 3") in the "billion dollar" club in April.

With Phase 4 and its 10 projects set to run through 2021, it's safe to assume that the rest of these films will begin rolling out sometime in 2022. Her involvement with Marvel Studios' upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision is very telling about the direction of that series as well as CM2.
