At a joint press conference with Pompeo, Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov expressed his country's interest in creating joint investment projects with USA businesses.

In Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan over the weekend and again on Monday, Pompeo raised human rights issues, including freedom of the press, with his interlocutors and denied any double-standard was at play.

Pressed by Toleukhanova from Radio Azattyq on what message his attacks on NPR send, Pompeo doubled down, saying, "It's a flawless message".

A key ally of President Donald Trump, Pompeo has often echoed the president's disdain for the media. The volume of American investments exceeded $45 billion, the Yelbasy noted.

"In 2019, we provided almost $ 100 million to strengthen the rule of law, education, English lessons, support for small businesses and entrepreneurs, and other forms of support", said Pompeo. The United States is "committing, pending congressional approval, $1 million of technical assistance to help Uzbekistan develop its capital markets", he added. "There is significant potential for cooperation in IT and other knowledge-intensive industries", Tleuberdi said.

The United States has confirmed 11 cases of the coronavirus. The economic growth and prosperity generated by this process offer the Uzbeks the opportunity to invest in the American economy, which will further increase the prosperity of both countries.

"The United States urges all countries to join us in pressing for an immediate end to this repression", Pompeo said earlier in a joint press conference with Foreign Minister Tileuberdi.
