Coronavirus brings first XFL season to a halt

The XFL's decision to suspend play followed similar moves by other US sports leagues.

Late into Thursday afternoon, it seemed the only league that was going to continue to play sports over the weekend would be the XFL.

Tough blow for the XFL if they're forced to suspend play in their inaugural season.

With major events including E3 and Coachella being cancelled/postponed, and other major sports leagues including the National Basketball Association and NHL putting their seasons on pause, it was expected that the XFL would be following suit. All XFL ticket-holders will be issued refunds or credit toward future games.

The eight-team league had five weekends left on a 10-weekend regular season, followed by semifinal playoff games and a championship game scheduled for April 26.

ORIGINAL: According to Konnor Fulk of XFL News Hub, the XFL will be suspending their season due to the Coronavirus. The NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS have all already suspended play, at least temporarily.

The XFL teams have 31 players from Alabama high schools and colleges on their rosters.

Update: The XFL has made it official.
