Vanessa Bryant Shares Special Tribute to Kobe on Wedding Anniversary

The Women's National Basketball Association began its 2020 virtual draft Friday night by announcing three honorary picks, which included the late Gianna Bryant, who perished in a January helicopter crash along with her father, former NBA star Kobe Bryant.

At the end of the draft, the WNBA announced the new "Kobe and Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award", which will recognize "an individual or group that made significant contributions to the visibility, perception and advancement of women's and girl's basketball at all levels".

The pain over the loss of Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant, and the 7 others who died in a helicopter crash over Calabasas isn't going away anytime soon, and even though it's hard to stomach, it's heart-warming to see how many people and organizations are still honoring the late legends.

She continued, encouraging all of this year's draft picks to work hard and strive for the excellence that she knows they have: "I want to congratulate all of this year's draft picks". Mom and wife Vanessa Bryant dedicated several heartfelt posts to the moving tribute on social media, including an emotional video message.

Vanessa Bryant is remembering her husband on what would have been their 19th wedding anniversary. She wanted to be one of the greatest athletes of all time, just like her daddy.

"She exemplified the Mamba mentality and was a fierce competitor". Kobe and Gigi loved the WNBA.

Earlier on Friday, the WNBA honoured Gianna during the 2020 draft as well. "Honorary Draft Picks:❤️Gianna Bryant❤️ ❤️ Alyssa Altobelli and Peyton Chester❤️ class of 2024", said Vanessa.

Gianna Bryant's dream was to make it to the WNBA. "Mommy's proud and happy for you mamacita!"

The WNBA will be keeping Gianna's memory alive long after draft day, too.

The WNBA and Bryant family will announce the first recipient of the award during the 2021 NBA All-Star weekend in Indianapolis. Gianna, Alyssa and Payton were all 13-years-old when they passed and Kobe was 41. I wish I could go back to that morning, every day. Life truly isn't fair.
