'Scientific breakdown' at CDC lab led to coronavirus testing delays, report says

President Donald Trump has recommended states roll out testing as different areas have weighed relaxing social distancing measures that were set in response to the pandemic.

Trump in a press conference Saturday night said the US has conducted more COVID-19 tests than any other country has been able to. In the early weeks of March, the CDC's stumbles to provide test kits in Washington and New York City allowed the virus to spread quickly and silently. 'CDC did not manufacture its test consistent with its own protocol'.

Contamination in the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention central laboratory complex in Atlanta caused a massive delay in the production of a test kit for the novel coronavirus, according to an investigation by the Washington Post. Then tell them CDC assay is problematic and may not give accurate results.

"CDC made its test in one of its laboratories, rather than in its manufacturing facilities", the FDA spokesperson told CNN on Saturday.

The Post also reports that the FDA determined that the "CDC violated its own laboratory standards in making the kits". "Since that time in February, we had conducted some 20,000 tests in total across the country".

Fast forward nearly two months, the president said the nation has tremendous testing capacity. The latest Associated Press analysis of available state and local data shows that almost one-third of those who have died from the coronavirus are African American, even though black people make up only about 14% of the population in the areas covered in the analysis. Now we have made more than 4 million and we believe we will have made more than 5 million by the end of this month, "Pence said".

Experts have warned, however, against the opening of this state before testing widely available. There are now more than 150,000 tests performed per day, Pence said, but that number could be "doubled" once enabled laboratories across the country. However, Trump shows such as the resumption of economic expansion must occur before the test level.
