Biden predicts Trump will try to postpone U.S. election

Republican President Donald Trump trails Democrat Joe Biden among registered voters in three battleground states that he narrowly carried in 2016 and are seen as crucial to winning November's election, according to an Ipsos public opinion poll conducted exclusively for Reuters.

"I can hardly wait to debate Donald Trump", Biden told supporters, according to a pool report from an online fundraiser.

The 77-year-old former vice president said it is "the only way he thinks he can possibly win".

During the fundraiser, Biden also criticized Trump's response to the outbreak. The president does not have the authority to change the date.

Though President Trump has not yet indicated he'll be delaying the 2020 election, many news outlets and magazines have written about the possibility since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

"Those are the incoherent, conspiracy theory ramblings of a lost candidate who is out of touch with reality", Tim Murtaugh, communications director for the Trump campaign, said in a statement Friday. Bernie Sanders, ending his campaign, the landscape inside the party looks markedly different as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee steps into the general election with a mostly unified party behind him.

At the fundraiser, Biden also referenced reporting by the Washington Post which revealed Trump's reluctance to fund the U.S. postal service and efforts to force changes to its financial structure, which could harm voting by mail.

"Republicans should fight very hard when it comes to state wide mail-in voting", Trump tweeted.

"Imagine threatening not to fund the post office", Biden said.

"You can be assured between [him] and the Russians there is going to be an attempt to interfere", he concluded.

The president has also objected to Democratic plans to expand voting by mail, saying that the policy would allow for easier voter fraud.
