Nicolas Cage to play Joe Exotic in Tiger King miniseries

"Tiger King" is becoming a television show with Nicolas Cage confirmed to star as Joe Schreibvogel, better known across the world as Joe Exotic. The show will also mark Cage's first television role.

American Vandal showrunner Dan Lagana will serve as writer and showrunner and will executive produce the series with Paul Young, Brian Grazer, Samie Kim Falvey, Cage and Scott Brown and Megan Creydt of Texas Monthly.

There's no word yet on this series' title, other casting or creative elements, or when it might air. The series tracked the rivalry between big cat owners Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin.

At the time of this writing, it is unclear when the Cage-starring series will be released and what channel it will be on. Though Tiger King was a ratings smash, it was far from the first exploration of Joe Exotic.

This miniseries is the second project based on "Tiger King" to be announced in recent months. It will dig deeper into the creation of Joe Exotic, the persona. The scandalous story of murder, animal abuse, and Joe Exotic seemed ripe for adaptation.

Another television series based on a podcast about Exotic is also in development. Yes, you heart it right. Globally, the views are way higher. People would love to know more about the man who became Joe Exotic and his wild ride to infamy.

The miniseries marks the second scripted drama to be based on Exotic following on from an announcement a year ago that the podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King would be adapted for television.
