National Basketball Association delays restart plan, hopes for fan-less playoffs at neutral sites

According to ESPN, Silver said he's still hopeful the playoffs can feature traditional best-of-seven series at two fan-less sites - possibly Las Vegas for the West and Orlando's Disney World for the East.

"There's no point in adding risk for flying all of you city to city if there's not going to be fans", Silver said.

Another interesting leak from the conference call involved the topic of finishing the National Basketball Association season in a concentrated bubble or bubbles, which players union chief Michele Roberts voiced her constituents' concerns about in an interview with Ramona Shelburne that published today.

There's also the possibility that fans will not be allowed in the arenas next season until a vaccine is readily available, Wojnarowski relays in another tweet.

Through it all, Silver reminded players that these were issues that needed to be collectively bargained with the NBPA.

He flatly told players about the current Collective Bargaining Agreement: "The CBA was not built for extended pandemics".

"We could do all that, and then what happens when one or two or 10 players test positive after that 28-day isolation?" Silver said he found those remarks disheartening, sources said, because a vaccine is likely more than a year away from production.

Two particularly interesting snippets to me were what the commissioner said about if a player tests positive, and the need to finish the season in 1-2 locations.

Several teams opened training facilities on Friday while adhering to strict safety protocols which included having no more than four players in the buildings at all times. Silver said, if that was happening, it was "disheartening", and assured them that organizations would be reminded.

Some NBA teams have clearance to start opening practice facilities, but don't expect every player to drop what they are doing so they can report.
