A video that spread online shows a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, pinning Floyd to the ground with his knee on his neck for several minutes.

Kellie Chauvin, the wife of the former police officer charged with murdering George Floyd, is filing for divorce.

An emotional Hope Coleman, mother of Terrence Coleman, a 31-year-old black man with a mental health disability who was fatally shot by a Boston Police Officer in 2016, cried as she spoke to the Peters Park crowd.

The case has added to USA anger over police killings of black Americans.

Floyd's death has strong parallels to that of Eric Garner, who died during a fatal 2014 arrest in NY, repeatedly pleading with officers, "I can't breathe".

Mr Freeman informed the media that investigations were being made into the three other officers involved in the incident.

Mr Freeman said his office had "never charged a case in that kind of timeframe".

York said officers within the KCK Police Department are trained to "respect life".

Protesters also torched the 3rd Precinct station, the focus of numerous protests, which was abandoned before the angry crowd surrounded the building. A number of buildings have been burned, looted and vandalised in recent days, prompting the activation of the state's National Guard troops.

Floyd, a black man, was arrested Monday after police were called to investigate reports of a counterfeit bill.

It was the third night of violent protests after Floyd died in a confrontation with officers outside a grocery store.

Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck, has been arrested.

For those who have been following this story closely, it was recently reported that Chauvin and Floyd actually had a history together as they used to work security at the exact same establishment.
