United States sees daily record of almost 40000 coronavirus cases

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top health expert, warned Friday that some parts of the country are facing "a serious problem" as COVID-19 infection rates spiral in several USA states across the South and West.

"We are facing a serious problem in certain areas", said Fauci, noting that while some places were now faring far better than others, the entire country was "interconnected" and remained at risk.

"The overwhelming majority of people who are now getting infected are young people, like the people that you see in the clips in the paper or out in the crowds enjoying themselves", Fauci noted.

"And at the end, you contaminerez someone vulnerable, this can be a grandmother, a grandfather, an uncle in the chemotherapy or radiotherapy, or a child with leukemia", he said.

"We've got to walk side-by-side with our community leaders. that know how to translate our scientific dogma", she said.

"We're in a much stronger place".

He later defended President Donald Trump's controversial decision to resume large campaign rallies despite the pandemic, saying Americans had a right to freedom of speech and assembly.

But the strategy has backfired: the state saw a record 5,596 new coronavirus cases Thursday, a major jump from 10 days ago when it had 1,254 new cases in a day. On Friday both announced measures to discourage people from meeting in groups, such as ordering bars closed or banning on-site alcohol consumption at them.

Wall Street stocks suffered their second rout in three sessions following the announcements, with major USA indexes falling around 2.5 per cent or more to finish the week in the red.

This comes as several states, including Texas and Florida, have seen an increase in their COVID-19 cases.

"It is clear that the rise in cases is largely driven by certain types of activities, including Texans congregating in bars", Governor Greg Abbott said.

And it's no coincidence, officials said, that Friday's briefing took place at HHS rather than at the White House.

The US hit an all-time record for daily coronavirus cases for the third day in a row on Friday with more than 40,000 new cases.

Amid the spike in cases, Mr Trump cancelled a planned weekend visit to his golf resort in Bedminster, New Jersey.

The White House about the past two months all but removed coronavirus task force briefings and sharply curtailed general public appearances by its health care professionals as Trump shifted his concentrate to receiving the region relocating yet again.

New York, New Jersey and CT recently implemented a mandatory 14-day quarantine periods for any individuals traveling into the aforementioned states from any other state deemed a hotspot, with Texas highly included. "He is now being forced to do the things that we've been demanding that he do for the last month and a half".

Mr Trump has pledged to take a hard line on anyone destroying or vandalising historical USA monuments, as activism against racial injustice sweeps the country.
