Guardiola approves potential Liverpool move for ‘exceptional player’ Thiago

According to Bild, Liverpool are interested in signing the Spain global central midfielder from Bayern in the summer transfer window.

It is understood that Alcantara, who has 12 more months in his current contract with Bayern Munich, has refused to extend it as he is looking for a new challenge having tasted huge success during his seven-season stint with the German champions.

DAILY POST had reported that Thiago had drawn the interest of Liverpool in the past.

The German outlet says Thiago wants to join Liverpool and the Reds have already submitted an opening £23m bid, but Bayern value the Spanish global at closer to £36m so there is still work to be done before a deal is agreed. Apart from the German league trophy, he has won eight more trophies with Bayern Munich.

Liverpool is now expected to pay Bayern Munich £36million for the midfielder's signature. It does not necessarily represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

Meanwhile, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed he still hopes to persuade Thiago to remain at the Allianz Arena.

In truth, midfield is one area where Liverpool are strong and have plenty of depth, but Thiago is a world-class player and as such, plenty of fans will be excited about his potential arrival.

Thiago was part of Guardiola's Barcelona side in 2010/11 that won La Liga and the Champions League, while he was at Bayern for all three of Guardiola's Bundesliga title triumphs.

The 29-year-old scored 11 times in 101 games for FC Barcelona before he completed his move to Bayern Munich in the 2013 summer transfer window.
