"Just from a political analysis standpoint, is there a danger here, going down this road?" In the interview, which aired Sunday, Trump made a number of comments that generated controversy or strained credulity.

Kasich ran for the Republican nomination for president in 2016 as a moderate candidate but was outlasted by Trump. His remarks to Fox are certain to fuel conversation on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers had already been airing concerns in private about a scenario in which Trump disputes the election results.

The remarks came as new polling results showed support for Mr Biden increasing as doubts about Mr Trump's handling of the pandemic grow amid a resurgence of infections in many states.

And a new Washington Post-ABC News poll has Mr Biden leading Mr Trump among registered voters nationwide by a resounding 15-point margin, 55-to-40 percent.

Trump often turned what were billed as opportunities to provide the anxious public with information into testy exchanges with reporters in the White House briefing room. He has transformed the image of the USA presidency during his first term with unprecedented streams of press conferences, tweets and rallies.

"He's shot, he's mentally shot", Trump said.

He repeatedly pummelled Mr Biden, who has kept a relatively low profile amid the restraints imposed by the pandemic. He insisted, without evidence, that Biden wants to defund the police.

Asked whether he would hand over the presidency if Mr Biden wins, Mr Trump said: "I will keep you in suspense".

Unites States President Donald Trump questioned Joe Biden's competence as the Democratic nominee continues to lead in polls ahead of the November 2020 election. Before Trump's first debate with Hillary Clinton in 2016, for example, then-RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said, "The expectations on Hillary are very, very high". Crowing that you "aced" the MoCA is a bit like bragging that you passed a sobriety test while sober.

"Let Biden sit through an interview like this, he'll be on the ground crying for Mommy".

"Of course I do", he said, adding his usual refrain that "whites are also killed, too".

Here we go again with this guy... "You can like his answers or dislike them but he had answers and Joe Biden hasn't faced that kind of scrutiny, hasn't faced that kind of exposure", Wallace told Fox News' Bret Baier on Monday.

Mr Biden responded on Sunday, saying in a statement focused on the pandemic that "it's long past due for President Trump to listen to somebody other than himself in how to fight this virus, because after six straight months of deadly mismanagement it is spiraling even more out of control".

The President added that he believes the USA will "be like Venezuela" if Mr Biden wins. "You have to say that". "I don't care what the military says", the commander in chief said.

"He will say, "mommy, mommy, please take me home", the US President said, adding that Biden can't do an interview as he is incompetent.
